About Me

Hi! I’m Amilia Jackie, and Poppy and Satch is my jewelry brand that I named after my two beloved cats. I am primarily a self taught artist, and have been creating jewelry since I was seven. I can safely say that making a pair of earrings for my second grade 100th day of school was one of the most pivotal moments of my life.

I obtained my BA from Johns Hopkins University in 2023 where I majored in Medicine, Science, and the Humanities with a focus in Art History. I also double minored in Art History and the Classics (remember this– it's important ;) ).

Up until 2024, most of my work was beaded and wire-wrapped jewelry, but since my relocation to Rochester NY, I have dived headfirst into silversmithing. I took an introductory course on metalsmithing at the Memorial Art Gallery and realized that this is what I was truly meant to do. I am now in the process of applying to RIT’s MFA program in Metals and Jewelry Design, and am working towards becoming a professional jeweler and not just a hobbyist.

Currently my work is heavily inspired by color and antiquity, namely the Byzantine empire. I am obsessed with their use of granulation! I am also obsessed with the question of what would an ancient mermaid have in her jewelry box, so a lot of my work is an attempt to answer that. Even though I clearly love history, I’m not just stuck in the past, I swear! I love creating pieces with more modern and unusual silhouettes like ear-cuffs and flat-back piercing jewelry, as well as pieces that are what I like to consider  “whimsy-grunge” (If you’ve ever seen the show Nana you’ll get what I mean).

Thanks for all the love and support <3333

(this is me in my hallway aka studio space.. gotta love it lol)
